Caring for your products is an important step, and can be quick to do. Just a few minutes of cleaning can keep your products looking new and beautiful.

Tack needs the most care out of many leather products. Although my tack is backed with latigo leather which is sweat resistant, over time, it can still get dry. With a wet rag, wash the sweat and dirt off the front and back of your tack. If your tack is extra dirty, add a mild soap to your water. I prefer blue Dawn dish soap.
After cleaning with soap, go over your tack with an oil intended for leather such as Neatsfoot oil.
You’re almost finished! To get a nice soft, supple feel back into your leather, a conditioner is very important. That is the product that gives our leather such a good feel, and will even help block out moisture. I prefer Skidmores leather cream for this step. Apply to the front and back (more generously on the back).

If cleaning belts or other leather goods that are not as exposed to the elements, the washing stage may be skipped and the oil/condition steps may be used.
